How many to shut? After MCA colleges its Eng. Colleges turn...

Number of students joining in engineering counselling this year was less than the total number of engineering seats. Some colleges hired agents even helpers and data operators at Internet centers must have colluded with colleges to get students to opt for their colleges. The agent also takes a token amount from the students' parents for filling up of the online web counselling college option form. Over a 100 new engineering colleges that have come up in the recent past seem to be the least favorite among students.
This year most of the admissions in engineering colleges take place on the last day for reporting to colleges. Just 100000 out of 1.42 lakh students who got admission in the 1st round of counselling. Students taking admission in the second phase of engineering counselling which began on Tuesday should opt for as many colleges as possible for there could be vacancies even in the top most engineering colleges. Out of 1.82 lakh engineering seats on offer in the convener quota, only 54% filled so far, several engineering colleges might have to shut shop.
Last year, After first phase of counselling only 4,630 seats of 1.5 lakh seats on offer were left vacant. If there were 654 colleges last year, there are 692 now and the number of seats have gone up by 30,000. Due to poor quality of technical education in the state as the key reason for so many seats to have remained vacant even as they note that many students have taken admission in engineering colleges of other states. 'T' trouble brewing in the state is another factor that has led to this.
